Ground Source Heat Pumps
Geothermal heat pumps (GHP) have been used since the late 1940s. Over a million heat pumps are installed worlwide every year.
There are two different types of Ground Source heat pumps:

Horizontal ground collectors, If enough land is available, are an effective method of extracting heat from the ground. The pipework is buried at a depth of about 1.5m, where the ground temperature is stable.

Vertical boreholes can be used to place the ground collectors. From 23 to 152 meters deep, where the temperature is constant all year long, they are very similar to horizontal ground collectors.
